Online marketers and entrepreneurs like me and you can sometimes be like a bunch of starving, wild dogs; ferociously seeking out the next big thing when it comes to making cash online or to help us promote our business. And like a vast sack of soggy bibles thrown from an airplane, the next big thing has landed in front of us with a meaty ‘thud’ in the form of Google+ (plus, for those of you not adept at symbology).

While the rules of marketing on this new and ever-so-tasty social site are quite similar to what you’d do on say, Twitter or Facebook, there are some things you should keep in mind. So like a drunken homeless exhibitionist in Central Park, I’m going to quickly reveal to you some tips on how to make money on Google+ Plus.

And before you leave, make sure you enter your name and email address below to receive some of the more in-depth secrets to this tactic.

1. Remember, this isn’t Facebook.

The first thing you should keep in mind when starting your marketing on Google’s new social site is that this definitely shouldn’t be regarded as your new FB profile. The fact of the matter is that whereas the ‘Big F’ is mainly for social interactions and the like, on Plus you’ll have your personal and business contacts together (albeit in different ‘circles’ if you want them) so care must be taken not to send updates about the amazing distance that your newborn daughter’s latest milky projectile vomit traveled.

2. Boost Your Follower Count

There’s little point using this tool for marketing if you’re not going to spend the time and/or effort increasing your followers. There are two main ways of really getting your numbers up faster than a junkies heart rate. Firstly, use all your existing promotional channels (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc…) to tell people you’re now on Plus. Also, use company newsletters, your blog and anywhere else your customers are visiting to ensure you’re getting the exposure you deserve. Secondly (and if you want to save yourself a load of time) you can buy targeted Google+ followers which will be added to your account. Definitely worth a look if you have some money you can invest.

3. Quality, Quality, Quality

The fact of the matter is that while Facebook and others are filled with teens incessantly spewing things like “FML” and “I hate my parents…”, you have to realise that Google Plus is a more professional environment and the average user-age (some might say intelligence and maturity as well) is higher than on some of the other social sites. Because of this, a photo of a kitten with your company logo or URL on it may not be enough to keep your Plus followers entertained. The simple thing to remember is that your followers are not axe-wielding Viking warriors with one-track minds intent on rape, drinking and swearing. Don’t treat them as such as you should do OK.

4. Cross-Promote Like A Boss!

Making money on Google plus is easy if you can master this point. Let’s face it, the main reason you’re have an account here as well as every other social media site is so that you have another avenue of promotion, right? Well, don’t be shy about reposting everything you’ve listed on your FB, Twitter & YouTube pages, company newsletter, blog and/or website. The aim here is to smear your message as if it were a tasty chocolate-infused peanut butter as thoroughly over the thighs of the Interwebs as you can. Er, if that makes sense…

Finally, remember that if you really want to know how to make money on Google+ Plus, you just need a little practice and to spend a bit of time promoting your business, product or service on it. You’ll find it’s a lot like the social media marketing you’re used to, with a few small Googlie-wooglie changes.
